Gareth Howell has won today’s third Dunlop MSA British Touring Championship race at Silverstone – the final round of the 2006. It was Howell's second victory of the day after he'd also won race one.
Team Halfords driver Howell quickly assumed the lead and stayed there, ahead of a pressuring Colin Turkington in his Team RAC MG. Turkington drove an astonishing race to finish second after starting from 18th on the grid.
Vauxhall’s Tom Chilton fended off SEAT’s three drivers Jason Plato, James Thompson and Darren Turner to finish third.
Team Halfords’ newly-crowned Drivers’ Champion Matt Neal was unable to start the race because of a mechanical problem with his car.
The result means that Plato holds second place in the final championship positions by just one point from Turkington.
SEAT has also won the Manufacturers’ title – ending five years of Vauxhall domination – and Team Halfords has retained the Teams’ trophy. |
